Shannon Smith

"My approach to painting is simple and direct, 
using an alla prima technique. I use the lushness
 of oil paint to capture how light interacts and plays
 with the subject. It is the quiet subdued neutrals with 
their absence of light that work so well to introduce the
 punch of intense light and pure color. 
Regardless of the subject, whether it be landscapes, 
figures or still life, it is the contrasting qualities of light, 
value, color and texture that compliment one another to 
create a successful painting."
